Roll Up the Rim

Tim Hortons is a ubiquitous coffee and donut shop in Canada, where you can get a coffee with two cream and two sugar by just saying “large double double”.
Their spring ritual is to have the Roll Up The Rim To Win contest, where you roll up the rim of their cardboard cups to reveal “”PLEASE PLAY AGAIN/R’ESSAYEZ S.V.P.” or “WIN/GAGNEZ UN BEIGNE/DONUT”, or some other prize.
According to their Rules & Regulations (PDF file):
I have never filled in skill-testing question to get the donut I won, nor have I seen anyone else do that. THEY’RE BREAKING THE LAW!
Here’s the skill-testing question:
SUBTRACT 8
ADD 4
As a courtesy to the two people not skilled enough to figure it out, the answer is 26.
I wish they did ask me to fill out the skill-testing question so I could see what would happen if I provided the wrong answer.
Update (Oct. 14, 2005): This website is not affliated with Tim Hortons. If you wish to comment about Tim Hortons’ service, please e-mail or phone (1-888-601-1616) them. There are a few forums available that discuss their products and service; Google it, people. Comments to this post are shut off until internet users become intelligent (i.e. forever).
Update (Feb. 26, 2007): I added a new post for the 2007 contest.

I have about an hour when I come into work in the morning where nothing really happens and there’s not a lot to do. Hence, here I am…
And I wonder how many people win the 1 of 30 trucks and the 1 or 1000 plasma TVs? I’ve bought about 40-50 cups of roll up the rim coffees, and I’ve won a muffin and a donut. My girlfriend won a cookie. Who gives a shit about a cookie? Who in their right mind goes to Tim Hortons to buy a cookie? Nobody, that’s who.
I think they should increase the chances of winning and offer only two prizes: A cup of coffee or a truck.
Chances of winning a prize are 1 in 9, though for me it’s worked out to be about 1 in 20. Combining the coffees my girlfriend and I have bought together, it’s more like 4 in 50.
I’d like to do a survey to find out how many people have actually won, on average, 1 prize for every 9 cups of coffee they bought.
Jody, could please a post survey to Steel White Table and ask that very question? You could send the results to Tim Hortons.
And why does Tim Hortons coffee from the grocery store never taste like Tim Hortons coffee at the shop?
> do a survey to find out how many people have actually won
I don’t think a survey posted on this site would be representative of who won what; there are no Tim Hortons in California or Alaska where two readers are, and of the other three people who read this site, one of them doesn’t drink coffee.
coffee sucks. i go to tim hortons for their cookies and maybe their bagels. :(
My odds have turned out to be 1 in 30 (since Jody’s too lazy to post a survey).
Instead of depending on an external site for surveys, I think I’m going to write my own, so the data is stored on my site. There’ll be surveys galore then!
4 in 50? Holy shit, that’s almost as bad as 2632 in 32900.
I go to tim horton’s for the ladies with a side of love. Wait, do they even give side orders at tims? If not I’ll get a cookie next time.
I’ve not won anything from tims, which gives me a 100% win rate. Plus my teef are white and shiney! Though I’m tired… Ever so tired..
I just won a donut today, my odds are now 1/16.
$10 win for me today on my 6/49 ticket. That’s the most numbers I’ve had since Jody drew 5 number back in ‘91.
This comment is to Philip who posted a comment on April 6, 2004 regarding Tim Horton’s contest. I wish you would have done the suggested survey because I buy maybe 2 coffees from Tim Hortons and I won the Tim Horton’s bike this year. It was actually quite exciting! I definately shouldn’t have won it though as I don’t drink a lot of coffee, and everyone who knows me knows that. It definately should have went to someone who drinks it two or three times a day… but nonetheless I won it!
Thanks… Leona
You could say the same with ANY commercial contest, even lottos. Should I have betters odds to win the lotto (where I buy tickets every week) than the rich bastard who buys a ticket maybe once a year and wins?
Yes, you should have better odds. Odds are that you will win the lotto before me, since I’ve never bought a ticket for myself in my life.
I bought a ticket for one of the Tim Hortons unclaimed bikes yesterday. The draw is June 11. I better win.
September 23, 2004.
I received a Win Free Coffee for a Year Survey coupon from Tim Hortons, but the web site I was to log on to was unable to be found.
http://www.timssurvey.com
The link works for me.
I have No. 4231250802 tO WIN free COFFEE for one year. Have tried and tried to find the survey on the inter net but NO success. How
about a free cup of coffee for just trying to locate the site.
Thank you. Elaine M. Schmidt
I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY YOUR COFFEE IS TIMMY LICIOUS.
free coffee for a year #4243217604
my number is 4293307402 for a free coffee for a year i agree with number 15 cant find site for survey coffe for a year ,does not surprise me nothing is free in this world,Ilove their coffee im there 3 times a day, especially after work at 10.30pm.on wellington St Chatham.Ont.
I just filled in the Tim Hortons survey from the above link using one of the above registration numbers. The questions began to repeat on one point, but I eventually got to the end of it and gave them my email address and phone number.
I’m waiting for my year-supply of coffee…
I keep taking all the numbers that people keep posting here and submitting the survey…haha. If they’re too stupid to read the URL printed on their card (or posting #13), then I’ll gladly complete the survey with the numbers that they post!
tim hortons rocks!
My son just won the Coleman Camping gear….I guess it really can happen that you win something other than a cookie.
Since the contest started last week for 2005, I won 2 donuts and a coffee (a donut and a coffee just today), but I’ve upped by purchases to 3 coffees a day instead of 2, until this stupid contest is over.
Dumb.
I’m boycotting Tim Hortons, anyway, because of the poppy quarter scandal and the worms in their soup.
Dear Phillip:
I don’t know where you pick up your mis-information but a 2nd year Engineering student won a roll-up GMC Envoy last week and 2 guys from Clayton/Tatlock area near Almonte won a GMC Envoy after rolling up the rim. In my town there’s been a plazma tv and 5 Coleman camping gear prizes in the past two weeks. The Timmy stores nearby have given out over 2765 food wins in just two weeks… One of the thousand dollar bag’o'monies was claimed at the Timmy’s I frequent on Tuesday while I was there!!!!!!!!! Could’ve been me if I’d been a few minutes earlier. Try them odds on your lotto tickets! BTW, the mint asked Tim Hortons to be the distributer of their coins along with the Legion… Are you planning to boycott the Legion too? As for the soup, you sound like a wonderful pleasant person that has a nice disposition and a very small mind. Tim Hortons is very highly regarded in terms of food safety because of their high standards.
Continue your griping and misinformation as you wish… it’s your right. You sound like Mis-Information Minister from the middle-east we all came to know at a couple of year ago… Have a nice day.
I was joking, man.
What is it with people in this thread? No one has a sense of humour. It’s Tim Hortons for christsakes — a coffee and doughnut shop! What’s the big deal?
Yeah, I could have made it more clear that I was joking. Still, relax people, relax. We’re talking doughnuts here! Jesus.
Phil continue your rank against the mighty Tim’s…its a #@$&** blight on the landscape….physically and culturally….
Mr. Dick, your comments are gonna get you in trouble by the Tim Hortonites who frequent this page. The fundamentalists come out of the woodwork around here, you just wait. You think the Old Testament Jehovah was wrathful! Tim Hortons a blight on the landscape, physically and culturally? You are so dead. Brace yourself for the hurricane. It’s a-comin’.
ahh I got me trusty souwester, Hey, I can not believe “Rockbound” made it to Canada reads have you been following this…no no I am not going to make comments about my once cherished CBC one storm is enough….
Everybody else knew phillip was joking. Double-double sounds like the double-moron minister from the middle-west of a couple of minutes ago. Have a nice day, which is my pompus jackass way of saying “I WINS!!!”
I for one, used to feel as the author did. I drink timmy’s religiously, as there is a kiosk in my office.
I never win anything. not even a lousy coffee…3-5 coffees a day. Rarely I would win a donut. (Maybe 1 every couple of weeks).
THis year, on my way back from vancouver though, I won a camping set. With the exception of today, I’ve been 2/3 winners all week. I’ve been giving away my rims!
You too can win :) When it rains it pours…
I heard that if you win the truck , you own it for one year only. After the one year you are allowed to buy it. i do not know if this is true, Does someone know?????
Of course you own it.. You don’t win a grand-prize of a lease! :P
I go to the Tim Horton’s on Lakeshore in Oakville Ontario - for one reson - The main lady that works there is AMAZING and makes the whole tim hortons experience awesome - I could go to
any tim horton’s BUT, LINDA makes eveyone smile before
leaving - and the coffee tastes that much better because
of that one reason - I also spend $10 or more a day just
on coffee alone so I deserve to win the coffee for a year - or better yet for life.
Thank you for making the number one coffee IN THE WORLD
my day would not be the same without a timmy’s
this just frightens me how a corporation is able to insuiate itself into our every day life..you hear this all the time…I couldnt live with out my timmys…I know people are going to be cranky ….but people its a coffee shop!….its water and beans…our lives have gotten so “busy” we cant even make a cup, or thermos of coffee…christ!
however i do applaud heartly LINDA for obviously doing a fantastic job…in a job that many would find demeaning..and its a hard job…I am glad that tanya starts her day right…more so because of linda..the human interation is valuable but give me break about “needing” timmys…
tanya you should email corporate timmys and let them know what you think of linda…and tanya I am a tea drinker but many of my over seas friends believe that timmys coffee must be a derivitive of moose piss or ground up hockey pucks…it does not fare well on the world stage of coffees…
I have never won anything
hi just write to say l vist a store on greenhill and king st after a night shift l am greet by a very friendly lady name June THE STORE IS IN HAMILTON ONTARIO .
These recent barrage of comments are from people searching for “timssurvey “?
What the hell’s up with that?
i live at tims . i atleast spend 6 to 10 dollars a day and i think i own this tins on colborne st in orillia on. i love my tims i think there should expand into the states more.
I was with a friend from Paris over the summer. We stopped at Tim Hortons for some coffee. I’m not a fan of their coffee, but when I can’t find anything else, it does the job. When I asked my friend from Paris how the coffee tasted, he said, “How to you say… cat PISS?” I didn’t disagree with him, and didn’t take it as a sleight against all Canadians. I think the main reason people drink that stuff is the caffeine content, which must be about twice as much as regular coffee. It also has that ‘comfort food’ appeal going for it. But 10 dollars a day? Sorry, but that’s absurd to the point of tragedy. That would be $300 a month on Tim Hortons coffee? Christ, just as well to take up smoking.
timmy’s is the best
i have tim’s coffee every day even if i’m not going to work and the
girls are great
I can’t get your survey site at http://www.timssurvey.com
Help Evie here
unable to access your site
Connot get to website http://www.timssurvey.com. I think website is a farce the same as the roll up the rim contest. I buy on average 4 large cups od double cream Timmys per day. What I won was 6 donuts, 8 cookies, 4 bagels and 2 muffins and oh yeah 1 (one) COFFEE. I also have purchased two Tim Horton coffee makers which lasted until the warrenty expired. Certificate # 4278884802 &4257581204.
well i like tim’s coffee every day and i am very happy to have it at the end of my street.
I should have shares in Tims Coffee I buy so much of it, LOL
where is your site http://www.timssurvey.com???? Why have your staff hand out these advertisements for Free Coffee for a Year when there is no site??
pleeeeeeeeeeeezzzee…..Carol
I’m seriously considering create a parady of a Tim Hortons’ Survey here, just to fuck with people’s minds. What should be the prize though?
i’m with Carol who wrote comment # 46……..were the heck is this website?…….i want free coffee for a yeat!
HI can anyone tell me how to get to the contest site??? I have recieved about 10 of these stupid coupons to enter and No freekin site!!!!!! Typical of the service. Love the coffee but everything else lacks. Maybe not in all parts but here……. If anyone knows let me know.
Hi,I bought a coffee today and received a coupon. There is now web site http://www.timssurvey.com to enter for winning!!!Please answer. Thanks
employees need more training
Yes, Jody, as The Tim Hortons Representative For The Internet, please do answer.
I should contact Tim Hortons about paying me for the hits I’m getting. Maybe they’ll want to put ads here. I’d do it, if the price was right ($5000/month per ad).
Do it.
I love tims, sooths me down for bed time!!!!
I was a tourist here year 2003..and when I went back to Rome…the ist thing i missed in Canada….was my double double tim hortons. So, when I came back here 2004, the ist thing i did when i arrived downtown, was to look for a TIM HORTON’s coffee shop.
What’s funny was…after a year…I forgot how to say to say my order. I knew it was MEDIUM…. then what? I was on the cashier already so I just have to say it and I said…MEDIUM half half please…. with a smile and doubt on my face. The cashier said…Hmmm MEDIUM double double maybe? and I just laughed so loud and said…” yes thanks for the supplement for the right word”…. The lady at my back was laughinh too, and the chasier. We all had a laugh actually……
My morning will never be complete without a drinking a Medium double double TIM HORTONs…..there is no way I will take another kind of coffee.
Can we now start making fun of all the Tim Hortons coffee drinkers who are too slow to realize this blog has nothing to do with Tim Hortons?
Oct12/05. ol line survey not available although coupon says open until Oct 19th. What gives?
Timmie”s is where good friends meet.
Cert.#4284394004
jody what is it with these people….people this is not a “timmies” site…we do not want to meet you..I should clarify that..jody may want to meet you..I do not..
I think folks just want a forum to complain or compliment about them, and because this site is showing up for searches of “timssurvey” and “tim hortons survey”, people use what they first see. I guess. Still, I SHOULD contact Tim Hortons about them paying me a ton of cash because… well, because it might work!
LOL @ “employees need more training”
I love there coffee. It is the best. I also love the roll up the rim to win.
Great coffee. Love the roll up the rim to win.
I not only have to have either your coffee everyday but also stepped tea has been a great preference for me as well. We always buy your large can of fine grind coffee in the home. I can remember when (I came from Hamilton) having my Dad taking me to the Ottawa original timmy’s on a Sat. while Mom got groceries at the Centre Mall I got a scruptious doughnut of my choice…He of coarse as I was too young got a good cup of coffee….
I wish that “your” in the last comment were true.
I’m considering shutting down the comments for this post, though it’s interesting to see how many people think I own Tim Hortons.
Maybe you should update the post, Jody, with a little note explaining to the legions of slow-on-the-uptake Tim Hortons patrons who keep coming here that you don’t actually have anything to do with Tim Hortons, and that you DON’T CARE… unless of course Tim Hortons wants to advertise in this space, and then you’ll want to delete this comment and all the others like it.
Just like to say That I work at University Hospital and I always get good service from Deb and rose in the morning.
Perhaps there is some chemical conconxtion in the coffee that allows these people to be so dense…or allows them to spend inordinant amounts of money on crappy refreshments and food like substances….
I was looking for the Tim’s survey but it is unavailable. I normaly have no trouble getting great coffee. But they took Marion out of the Old Main St. Store. It’s now gone to the dogs, the service is to wait too long in line for a coffee and now it usually disgusting.
You make great coffee Jody Hortons! cudos to you! huzzah huzzah the coffee mesiah has come and his name is Jody Hortons!

Good promotion…no access to the website, so no coffee giveaways! Sounds a little like the roll up the rim scam.
You don’t get free coffee there either.
jody stop the madness stop the madness…..t
Oh god, the humanity! The stupid Tim Hortons humanity! Please end it now!
And with that I say, good day to you, sir!
This is the last comment for this post until further notice (see the update I made in the post itself).
