Best Freeware Utilities

The 46 Best-ever Freeware Utilities lists a nice collection of free software for Windows; however, they don’t have some of my favorites:

  • TClockEx: enhances the standard Windows taskbar clock, adding the ability to display the date, time and lots of other information in any format you like. TClockEx is highly customizable, from the format to the font and colour, and even the tooltip information.
  • Firefox: empowers you to accomplish your online activities faster, more safely and efficiently than any other browser, period. Built with Tab browsing, popup blocking and a number of other seamless innovations
  • Starter (annoying site, so this is the direct link to the file): easy to use utility for managing your windows startup

There are other items I could add to that list, but I’m not at home as I write this. I may update this later.

I also visit OnlyTheBestFreeware.com and NONAGS when searching for good quality, free software.

Update: Pricelessware: The best of the best in Windows Freeware as determined by the readers of alt.comp.freeware.

I’ve tried TClockEx before but didn’t really like it. I never used any of the extra features and I just ended up making it look like the standard Windows clock.

Killing time here. Yeah, I’ve used the clock. It’s installed on both my PCs at home and my PC at work. It’s current displaying the time and day in the corner, exactly like the Windows clock, except better. It says: “May 2, Sun (4:52PM)”, exactly like that (and with an erudite English accent to make seem more authoritative). I don’t know what the Windows clock does, but I know it doesn’t do that… I also use a free calculator which is a lot better and just as easy to use at the Windows calculator… I have the Starter program, but I think XP pretty much does the same thing… As for FireFox, I like it, but it won’t save bookmarks on my XP machine, only on my Win98 PCs. I also don’t like the way it downloads files. Plan ole Mozilla works for me… I’m looking for a free Poker program, one that can play Texas Hold ‘Em.
