What’s The Use?
I hum through most of my songs because I don’t enjoy writing lyrics. I might come up with one verse, one chorus and a catchy chord progression, but then I’d rather hand it over to someone who knows what they’re doing and say, “You finish it.” I’ve recorded plenty of ideas for songs, but not many fully realized songs. (I need a writing partner.)
Anyway, that’s what’s going on with this 81-second song I recorded sometime in 2000 as my first attempt to play a country-style song. I even tried to sing it with a country twang in my voice. Lyrically, I was aiming for something along the lines of I’ve got tears in my ears from lying on my back. What I wound up with is probably closer to Baby, I Love You.
Upate: The “What’s the Use” recording is no longer available.

I really like this song. It’s direct and to the point which goes well with what you’re saying–you’re pissed off and sick of indirect bullshit so you’re going to leave. I don’t know how much of Baby, I Love You is in there, but it kinda reminds me of Whup of Love the way it quickly pours in and out at a quick pace that doesn’t lag or get boring. Nice stuff! Maybe you should get a banjo or mandolin.
I’d love to play the banjo.
I’ll back you up on the accordion.
The tune is too short. You’ll never get in the Top-40 with such a short song.
