She Nearly Broke My Spine

Phillip posted this at 7:59 am under music & audio, phillip's room

Originally recorded by the Kinks, this rendition of “Lola” was transferred from a tape I found lying in the corner of my room underneath a pile of dusty old thesis notes. Jody and I recorded this song in 1990 in Montreal. I had a cold. I was reading from the sheet music torn from the pages of some music magizine, but a couple pages were missing. Jody, with the missing pages, came over about half-way through the song and sang the remaining lyrics. Jody sings on this one.

Upate: Our rendition of “Lola” is no longer available. (Yet another collector’s item!)

This song is fun to listen to–I always laugh. You sound so young!

Weird Al Yankovic (sp??) spoofed that song. His was called Yoda. Something like “Well I saw a little runt sitting on a log: Yoda, Y-O-D-A, Yoda.” Very profound, compelling, controversial stuff. Weird Al’s a real thinker.

(Jody: maybe you’ll get some extra hits now from people searching Yoda and Weird Al Yankovic)

I downloaded this song somewhere… possibly a music blog. Really I have no idea where I came across your cover of ‘Lola’ but I love it!

Unfortunately the format I downloaded it as doesn’t permit it to go on to my iPod. So I was wondering if maybe you could send the mp3 format to me… unless you cannot for some reason, in which case, I would totally understand.

hopefully this is the right “phillip & jody cairns.” I imagine there cannot be too many phillip & jody cairns out there…
