A Really Fast Barbeque
This is the first time I’ve taken a crack at time-lapse photography. This 5 minute video of my girlfriend Jenny and I having a barbeque on our back porch actually took about 60 minutes to film. We made sheeshkobobs with shrimp, tofu (I’m not a fan, but anyway), Portobelo mushrooms, two big plumb tomatoes, green and yellow peppers, onions, etc. We ate it all with brown rice and red wine and had strawberry-rhubarb pie for dessert. We video taped the whole thing (cooking the food and then eating the food) from two stationary camera positions. We also took some digital pictures of the proceedings which we’ve inserted into the footage. If I had to film something in time-lapse again, I’d pick something more visually interesting. Nonetheless, hold on tight; it’s a quick 5 minutes. (Special thanks to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.)

That’s a big pic you’ve included there, Jody. I thought you’d shrink it a bit first. Shit, I just looked at the pic JWalk lifted from the video. Lovely. I post my goofiest video with deliberately unflattering pics thrown in for good measure, and this is the one that gets noticed. (I don’t think Jenny’s going to be happy about this… Jenny?) Nevertheless, thank you, and I’m glad you like it.
And I think I misspelled “sheeshkobobs” “plumb” tomatoes. Bad spellers of the world, untie!
With this kind of exposure, I’ll probably get an email from Bela Fleck’s people now telling me to cease and desist.

There was a lot of deadspace with the bbq, I was laughing cause nothing was going on. I was thinking “good thing this is sped up, I don’t know how long I could stare at this bbq except I know someone will explode onto the scene any half second now”. Then the camera flipped around the universe and landed on your table so you could eat, that was cool too.
At first I didn’t understand the picture thing, because you were standing behind the bbq with the camera, I was thinking these were pre-recording pictures, then I saw you two passing the camera back and forth and realized it was current pictures from the scene. THEN it was awesome!
Funny that JWalk posted it. Even funnier that he posted that picture of Phillip. Lookin’ good! I wonder why he didn’t choose my psycho self-portrait…?
