Opening Lines

First Lines - A Sort of Literacy Test:

We have collected here the first lines of books we hope you will recognize as old acquaintances. Your challenge is to name the book given the first line. The books are divided into categories which may help you identify them.

I got most on the Warm Up Exercises page. It was cool recognizing lines I’ve read 20 years ago.

CliffsNotes has an online “easy” Opening Lines Quiz and a Graduate-Level one.

The First Lines of Love Poems are available.

And why are movie last lines more memorable than book last lines?
