Ripping Records

Jody posted this at 9:12 pm under music & audio

Chet Atkins recordA 45 MB Quicktime movie showing a guy ripping and scanning his records (you know - those 12 inch in diameter, thin, black, plastic circles that existed before compact discs) with a great soundtrack. For each of his 609 albums he:

  • Scanned the front and back jacket.
  • Scanned each side of the record itself.
  • Ripped every song as an MP3.

All are available on his site. I predict the site will be up for another week at most.

That guy has pretty good taste in music. I own a lot of those albums, and I also found a lot that I used to own.

Yeah, looking at the scans of his vinyl and hearing the pops and scratches on his MP3s brought back some fond memories.

you know, this is the kinda thing that i inevitably get asked every year from someone old and just barely computer savvy. I should keep these links and send them to those people, but i’ll continue with my “i dunno, line in and record” stance on the whole thing… :/
