Isn’t That Lovely?

My wife and I were shopping for furniture. I saw a Colonial-style desk and said “That’s lovely” to myself.

Wife: What?!
Me: What?
Her: What did you just say?
Me: Uh… it’s nice. That there is nice.
Her: No you didn’t. You said “lovely”.
Me: Did I? Well, it is, isn’t it?
Wife: But “lovely”?

Brave post. It’s not necessarily a softening of your masculinity, so to speak. It might be a flashback from your Newfoundland days. “Lovely” is used commonly there.
