Midnight Mud

Phillip Cairns at NightLast night I recorded this mudcast of just me talking quietly for 22 minutes, with Esther Golton and Steel White Table playing lightly in the background. This is strictly a late-night show. Listening to this in the middle of the day — it wouldn’t work. But late at night while you’re lying in bed, it has a chance. That’s how Jenny and I listened to it and in that setting, it was perfect. It was relaxing to listen to, and we fell asleep.

Some of the things mentioned during my meanderings: a description of what I see outside my window; this guy’s sense of humour; life; Townes Van Zandt; Harlan Ellison; Jim’s recent philosophical reflections; and how silence says more than words.

My meandering does kind of build up to something, but you can’t rush it. I think this one you either love it or hate it (and by hate I mean bored into unconsciousness)… I like the way it worked out.

at least twice in the first 5 minutes of this one, your commentary was perfectly coincided with the background music.

This might be the best podcast I’ve recorded. Definitely a late night show, but it works. It’s my favourite so far. Runners up are the Blob podcast and the first “clip show” podcast, which work because they’re a laugh.
