A Real Good Bagel Sandwich

Phillip posted this at 4:19 pm under food & drink, what i did today

My girlfriend, Jenny, is away for the next month, and I hate grocery shopping by myself. So I decided (i.e., by default of my laziness) I’m going to eat everything in the house until there’s nothing left to eat. Only then will I make a trip to the grocery store, and when I do, I’ll stock up on everything.

Jenny’s been be away only a few days, and so far I haven’t had to eat anything too disgusting—which means I haven’t yet cracked into the soy milk and yogurt (I’m not a big fan of health food). But this afternoon when I was making a simple toasted bagel sandwich with cheese and tomato, I found a container of hummus in the fridge. Can’t say I’m a big fan of hummus either, mainly because “hummus” sounds too much like “pus.” (They really need to give it a better name.) But I was desperate, so I put a little of this hummus on my sandwich.

And here’s the reason I’m writing this post: It was the best bagel sandwich I’ve ever had, and it’s the hummus (hummus!) that made it so good. It’s called Summer Fresh 60-Pepper Hummus, and despite its name, it’s not at all spicy or hot. It’s simply delicious. I think I’m going to make another one as soon as I upload this post. So here it is…

Ingredients:

—a lightly toasted non-enriched whole wheat bagel
—some sliced tomato
—butter and/or non-hydronated margarine
—some kind of lettuce
—some kind of cheese
—and 60-Pepper Hummus.

I’m not trying to push a product on you. Just sharing a good sandwich with you. You could probably get the same results with some kind of home-made hummus, but I don’t know anything about that. All I know is that this was one damn good sandwich, and dead easy to make.

Hm. This is interesting. So I guess by the time I come home (4 weeks, 6 days–can’t wait!) you’ll be on a steady diet of dried herbs, bouillon cubes and marmalade? With a little soy milk to mix them all together? Can’t wait for that homecoming dinner!!

I don’t know what hummus is, but if it’s HALF as good as sasquatch, I’m there!

Hummus - ground chickpeas/garbonzo (sic?) beans, garlic - and LOTS of it! - and… other stuff. I haven’t made it in a while, but sesame seeds come into play somewhere along the line.

Hrm… I think I’ll stick with my sasquatch, thanks.

Tahini. That was the ingredient I forgot.

What does sasquatch taste like? (Please don’t say “chicken” :)

It’s tangy and doesn’t tastes like chicken! Very similar to loch-ness monster only a little less greasy.

I see :) Don’t you find loch-ness to be gamey? Personally, I prefer jackalope.
