Alternate Mud (on CKDU)

Phillip posted this at 9:12 pm under music & audio, phillip's room

CKDU TowerMud Radio may be off the air, but I’m not. Since I pulled the plug on the webcast, I’ve been volunteering at a non-profit alternative radio station called CKDU. I haven’t completed my training yet, but I’ve been on the air three times already. Specifically, Jenny and I have been on the air three times as fill-in hosts for people who couldn’t make their shows. And guess what? It sounds a lot like Mud Radio.

CKDU is an attractive alternative to public and commercial radio. An unregulated webcast provides the ultimate freedom for a broadcaster; a place like CKDU is the next best thing. And that’s good enough for me because, for starters, I now have access to a music library about a thousand times larger than my piddly 1200-song Mud Radio library. I still have the freedom to do just about anything I want, and perhaps even more freedom because I now have access to much better equipment. But I’m still doing some basic training at the station, and haven’t decided yet what kind of show I want to do.

In the meantime, I’m doing fill-in shows with Jenny where we pretty much play whatever music we feel like playing, and talk about whatever we feel like babbling on about (hence, it sounds a lot like Mud Radio). All of our shows (or any show) can be downloaded or streamed from the CKDU Program Archives up to 90 days from the original broadcast.

So it may not be Mud Radio, but it’s the best I can offer for those who have asked me about turning my webcast back on — and you can download the shows if you can’t tune in to the live webcast (or local broadcast).

Times and dates of our downloadable shows, along with instructions on how to download them, will be posted on the Mud Songs archive page.

Do they have a live chat forum, like you had on Mud Radio? If not, do you access to a PC while on the air there?

The CKDU message board is here.

And yes, we do have access to a computer while on air, but unless we’re very prepared for the show, which usually isn’t the case, we don’t have much time to check email or message boards — or at least not type to them.

I want to go on the radio so I can complain about a distinctive lack of tang in this city!

That type of forum is easy to setup; I could create one for Mud Radio. I’m still working on the live chat though, similar to WWRs. I am.
