Firefox Creates Problem for Yahoo Mail

A few weeks ago, my girlfriend, who uses Netscape 7.2, began having problems signing into her Yahoo email account. I encountered the same problem a few days ago after installing Firefox 1.0.4. Here’s the problem:

Yahoo Mail prompts me for my password every time I try to access my email. It’s a royal pain in the arse. Normally, I’m prompted for my password once a day, maybe every other day. Now, though, I could send off an email, go to some other website, then recheck my email 10 seconds later — and have to type in my password again.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

What’s more interesting is that it only happens with Yahoo, not Gmail or any other site that only occasionally prompts me for my password. Perhaps the good folk at Firefox have made a deal with Google to force their users to switch over to Gmail.

At first this was only happening on my laptop. Now it’s happening on both my laptop and my PC. Great.

I’ve been having sort of similar problems with Hotmail and Firefox. I will enter my username and password, and all I get is a blank page. If I try to access it in IE, it works.

I haven’t fixed the password problem yet, but I did mess around with XP’s firewall feature — which didn’t do anything for me, but I did notice that my firewall allows “exceptions” from certain sites, 3 of the exceptions being from AOL. I unchecked those right away. I don’t even know how they got there. So if you use XP’s firewall feature, you might want to check out those exceptions and get rid of the AOL and any other gargabe you don’t want.

I’m still puttering along with Win2000, and I’ve checked the exceptions before. Oddly, I can check my Hotmail at work using Firefox, and there seems to be no problem.

I found a solution to the password problem — I switched over to Rogers Yahoo. That’s not a solution for the general public, but it’s good enough for me. It seems solutions posted here work for some people, though they didn’t work for me.

I never had any trouble like that with Yahoo, and I check it every day using Firefox 1.04. I did have some problems with Gmail one day though – wouldn’t let me log in. Then I deleted the cookie, and it worked great.
