Jimi Performing “Hey Joe”

jimi hendrixThis video of Jimi Hendrix performing Hey Joe (in what appears to be a television studio) made me want to listen to his albums and hear some Stevie Ray Vaughn, who said the following of Jimi:

I love Hendrix for so many reasons. He was so much more than just a blues guitarist—he played damn well any kind of guitar he wanted. In fact I’m not sure if he even played the guitar—he played music.

I think Jimi would’ve said the same of Stevie.

There are over 1,000 covers of Hey Joe, but I’ve only heard Jimi’s, Stevie’s, and Bob Dylan’s versions.

The guitar tabulature of Hey Joe is straight forward for you musicians, if you don’t try to emulate Jimi.

Ice T did a version on the Jimi Tribute album. I thought most of the album sucked. One of the worst tribute albums. Just my opinion.

The Robert Plant cover of “Hey Joe” on Dreamland is either a weird or weak spot on a surprisingly nice album; but whichever way you fall on it, it’s interesting to hear because it’s not like any other.
