Cauliflower Popcorn Video

Phillip posted this at 11:39 am under food & drink, movies, tv & video, phillip's room

Jody and Caitlyn decided to make cauliflower popcorn (6mins, 9mb) by roughly following this recipe. The result in the best episode of Sunday Morning Scoff ever.

Jody had this to say about it: “It was a fun experiment. We’ll make another video someday, although I don’t know of what.” (Music by Greg Brown.)

Update: I’ve been J-Walked and linked to from other sites.

Another update: The video is now available courtesy of Google Video:

Previously on Sunday Morning Scoff: Spaghetti Squash.

    1: that is amazing
2: you are about to get a good few hits from friends of mine, cause that is one DAMN cute kid, people needs to see it! There’s gotta be some cute kid contests on the internet that you can submit that video to. haha, so many great lines… “how much olive oil?” “a lot” “a LOT!” “whoa whoa, that’s enough!” hahaha
3: cauliflower may become the only vegetable i like outside of potatoes and corn, when i try this recipe out.

This is the only Sunday Morning Scoff video worth watching.

    Dear Phil,

I was once a regular listener at Mud Radio and was wondering if you were ever planning on bringing it back?

    Sincerely,
    Clayton

  4. Phillipon 18 Jan 2006 at 2:49 pm

Sorry, Clayton, I have no plans on bringing Mud Radio back — at least not on a regular basis. Anything could happen, but there are no plans.

Greg’s page must be slower than SWT (hard to believe). I get this page when I go to to:

    “The page cannot be displayed.
There are too many people accessing the Web site at this time.”

Greg uses IIS for his web server; he’s never had this problem before. He’s been Steel White Table-ed!

Phillip, you are probably getting the 403.9 Forbidden access error. It’s a problem with the web server software that I am using. I will have to re-evaluate my options and see if I am going to change anything.

I actually have a faster connection than Jody, but he uses Apache and I use IIS. I never had a reason to use Apache in the past… If I start getting more traffic, I will have to change software, which isn’t a big deal, but I have some programs that are only of use to me and I like to keep around but they are configured for IIS. I guess I should stop being so selfish and just change it.

Thanks guys, that was great. I’ve wanted to have a go at this since I saw the recipe on J-Walk, but now I’ll definitely give it a go with my kids. Best wishes to you all.

    Caitlyn’s famous now.

Some folks have asked what Caitlyn is eating at the end of the video when she’s answering my questions. It’s cucumber.

Truly inspiring, Jody. Well done. Watching that video makes me want to go spend some quality time with Vanessa. That’s gonna be quite a cool video to haul out when she’s 18 years old and just about to go on a first date with some guy.

So, you were 18 when you had your first date Ryan? I am not even going to ask when you lost your virginity :P

So, what is the proper recipe for the Cauliflower Popcorn?

    1. Cauliflower
    2. Oven temp?
    3. Cooking time?

    Thanks for the vid!

    Steve

Rebecca commented that the recipe probably came from The Surreal Gourmet, who was a guest on a radio program I heard it. Here’s the recipe from that cooking show’s site, which I’ve never seen (the show AND recipe). Stuff we did different from the recipe:
    - Had oven on 450 instead of 425
    - Used pieces of cauliflower smaller than golf balls
    - Didn’t turn the cauliflower while baking
    - Didn’t create dish using aluminum foil

The video is now available via YouTube as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnybsG1THyA, which allows commenting and ratings.

I just watched it again today. It’s all in the edit, baby. Though it doesn’t hurt that Caitlyn is in the video.

If it was a proper how-to video, I would have cut it down to 60 seconds. But that wouldn’t have been any fun.
