Yeah, I steered clear of Sony. Everything about Sony, both music and video, is bad news.

yeah, the sandisk ones are MUCH more plug-and-play than the iPod, where you have to use fucking iTunes or download some hacked up driver to copy your music to it. Many of the big name MP3 players are the same way, Sony is another one I know of that does that shit.

i've heard nothing but good things about the sandisk models. it's the same company that produces all the USB drives, flash memory, and all that storage crap, so their storage is quite reliable.

the bad side of iPods? umm, 300$?

I use a Shuffle and like it a lot. It is very light and unobtrusive - great for jogging. The one gig has gone down in price, holds about 240 songs, and is very sturdy.

DRM only comes into play when buying from store, so just import cds and you'll be fine.

I bought a sansdisk a couple of months ago. I have been happy with it. It holds 120 songs which is plenty for a workout. It is small and very easy to operate. The list price is around $80 American but I got mine on sale at Office Depot with a $30 rebate, which made it very affordable. My only complaint is the small plastic panel you take off to change the battery. It is flimsy and could easily break if you don't take if off carefully. There are some pretty good deals out there but you may have to search for them.
