As far as I'm concerned, if something is so complicated that you can't explain it in 10 seconds, then it's probably not worth knowing anyway.

Wearing a seat belt is mandatory by state law. Yet, there are countless deaths each year due to occupants being ejected from their vehicle because they were not wearing one. Kids are required to wear bicycle helmets. Very few do. We can legally drink alcohol when we turn 21. That doesn't prevent underage drinking and it doesn't mean we have to start drinking when we reach 21. Helmets are sold at all motorcycle shops and riders know the risks. If they choose not to wear a helmet, that is their choice. Some of the helmetless motorcyclists are reckless. They don't obey traffic laws. They drive at excessive speeds, weave between cars and drive down the berm. As a licensed motorcyclist for 35 years, it makes me angry. I no longer own or ride a motorcycle because I don't feel safe. Should motorcyclists wear a helmet? Yes! If they choose not to, they really are brain dead.

The reason the US has relaxed safety laws is they don't have public healthcare. In Canada, if some moron doesn't wear a helmet or fails to buckle up his two-year old kid and is paralyzed in an accident, then they become a burden on the public healthcare system. In the states, the only ones who really care are the insurance companies and, of course, the families of the morons.

All in the name of freedom!

Let them ride helmet-free. It's Darwin's theory. Cull the herd, survival of the fittest.
