An Interview with David Francey
I interviewed singer-songwriter David Francey on Monday and then wrote a short article about him on Tuesday. The article was published yesterday in a local arts newspaper called The Scope.
Both the article and the interview can be read online. Here’s a bit of the interview:
Phillip Cairns: “I was talking to Esther Golton this morning. You might know her. She and her partner, Jim Kloss, run an independent music webcast out of Alaska called Whole Wheat Radio.”
David Francey: “Oh, Esther! Yeah, I met them. They do the webcast. I just gave them my CDs. They’ve been really good to me. I was doing a songwriters workshop… and we played a festival, like a one-day thing in Anchorage, called I think it was the Ocean Festival in Anchorage, Alaska. Then we were off to a place called Seldovia for the Seldovia Summer Solstice Festival. And somewhere in there, I met her, because she said Whole Wheat Radio and I recognized it right away, and I was pleased to give her the CDs. And I know from other musicians she’s really highly thought of.”
He also talks about other things like how he writes songs and why some people think of him as a storyteller and not just a singer-songwriter. He’s a good guy with a good sense of humour. It was fun talking to him. I look forward to meeting him this weekend.

I also wrote a post about this on Mud Songs. Funny, it looks a lot better over there.
