New English Words
The OED (Oxford English Dictionary) has added some new words to their famous publication, including:
- bada-bing, int.
- beer pong, n.
- Disneyfication, n.
- Emily’s List, n.
- GIF, n.
- treeware, n.
The OED is known for their inclusion of quotes that illustrate a word’s meaning:
I wonder what they used for bada-bing.
By the way, if you have any interest in the English language, grammar, or writing, I highly recommend Simon Winchester’s books “The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity, and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary” and “The Meaning of Everything: The Story of the Oxford English Dictionary”
.
Anyone wanna buy me The Oxford English Dictionary? Only $999 Canadian! That’s, what, 50 bucks American. Free shipping!

If i ever become mayor.. my first paycheck i will dedicate to your big bookky….
I saw a used 1933 edition (all 20 volumes) for sale at a book shop in Charlottetown (The Bookman, I think) many years ago for around $200. I try not to dwell over the regret of not buying it.
my book vendor at the market has a two volume..mini oxford dictionary….I could lift it for her..and threaten to kick her out if she makes a fuss….ahhh the power…
Here, I will use bada-bing in a sentence.
I was walking down the street today, when suddenly, bada-bing, I kicked a guy in his nads.
I find this kinda funny, but I have also had a bit too much to drink tonight :)
