I prefer the short haired over the teddy-bear type. Less giant hairs floating in front of your face and ALWAYS landing in your coffee. Oh, the hairs still fly into your coffee, they're just less giant.

Of all the animals in my house growing up I liked guinea pigs the best. We had hamsters, ferrets, chinchillas, rabbits, dogs, cats, turtles, fish, guinea pigs, birds, frogs and my sister, all rolling around on the floor in their own waste. Yep, lots of animals.

Guinea pigs are cool cause you keep them in a cage for a bit, then after a couple of weeks you can remove the top/cage portion of the cage and just leave them in the pan. Out of 10 guinea pigs we only had 1 that liked to hope out of its pan. I named that one "jerk". I also like the noise they make when it's their supper time. It's much more pleasant than the noise they make when you drop them in the boiling water for your supper time.

What's more interesting is how she'll react - will she take you seriously or roll her eyes at you (she's almost at that age where eye rolls are the answer for everything, right?)

Don't fall for it, Jody. Guinea pigs do not have bacon.

Get one that doesn't have any distinguishing marks. That way when it dies in a couple years, you can do a switch-a-roo and she might not know the difference. I was devastated when my hamster, Frank, died. Devastated for a day, anyway.
