Flying A Kite

Jody posted this at 6:54 pm under what i did today

caitlyn flying a kiteIt was a busy family day; I took the afternoon off work:

  • Went to the International Festival of Kites in Dieppe. The kids made two kites, made with plastic and tape - better than any kite I ever bought; we saw kites shaped like fish, dragons, octopus; ate cotton candy and drank lots of water; and we flew the kites the kids made.
  • Drove to Shediac where we bought pizza, then went to my parent’s camper trailer near Parlee Beach (pronounced Par-lah), but they weren’t there so we pigged out on the excellent pizza ourselves.
  • Flew kites again near Parlee beach.
  • Ate a banana split and Kit-kat Blizzard at Diary Queen.

I’m beat.

I made kites when I was a kid. Sometimes I wish that’s all I ever stuck with. That and eating nothing but Blizzards.

There was also the kite that flew too far:

I spent a few minutes searching for the pattern used to make the kites made at the festival yesterday, and no luck. Yet, these kites took 5 minutes to make. Only plastic and scotch tape - no damn sticks. And they’ve worked unfailingly so far.

I’ll try to replicate them, taking photos of the process.

I just learned that my dad has NEVER flown a kite. Everyone should fly a kite at least once.

I know people who, as adults, have never swung on a swing. That’s something everyone should do too.
