I tried it without oil too. Not much better results. It's slow to pop and there's a significant pool of unpopped kernels left over. That my be due to the cheap no-name (Sobeys Compliments) popcorn we used.

I don't add oil when I do it - just pour some kernels in, fold the bag, and throw it in the microwave. I melt butter separately then pour it on.

We did it. Adding oil into a paper bag only makes it messier. The demonstration in the video seem deceptive. They show the guy adding oil, but the popped bag definitely didn't have any oil it. The oil soaks through the paper.

The kernels were slow to pop and not all of them popped.

It's okay, but I'd rather buy a good popcorn maker instead.

We're trying this tonight with some no name popcorn. I'll try to video tape it. If it works, I'll post the video. If it doesn't, I'll tell you.

After almost two years since this was posted, I tried this today (Saturday, July 4, 2009): it works. I put popcorn kernels in a paper lunch bag, folder the opening up a few times, then put it in the microwave for a minute or so.

All the kernels popped. The kids loved it.

Maybe this weekend if I'm not working.

UPDATE: I forgot. I don't have a microwave. One of those things like cable TV I decided I didn't need.
