How to Complete the Hoth Battle in Legos Star Wars Original Trilogy

Phillip posted this at 10:25 am under games, phillip's room

Jenny and I recently bought a PlayStation 2 video game console. We’re not gamers, but we do enjoy the occasional mindless video game. I like racing games such as Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which happens to be the most enjoyable racing games I’ve ever played. I don’t care about the storyline or upgrading or fine-tuning my car — there should be a SKIP ALL THE CRAP, I JUST WANT TO RACE option that makes all the upgrades and tuning happen automatically — but the racing is fun. Unfortunately, the latest version of the game, NFS: ProStreet, which we have for PlayStation 2, is the worst racing game I’ve ever played. The cars are clunky and cartoonish; there are no cops, no on-coming traffic to dodge, no short cuts; the menus are cumbersome and time-consuming; the cars are stuck on racing tracks that more or less go in circles which is boring; and compared to Most Wanted, the sense of speed is non-existent. I wish the Need For Speed folks would stop messing with a good thing and just put out NFS: Most Wanted 2 with some new cars, new tracks and smarter cops. I’d buy it. It couldn’t be any worse than ProStreet.

Jenny and I also bought Legos Stars Wars: The Original Trilogy for our PS2 because we heard it was a fun 2-player game, which it is. It’s silly but it’s entertaining and even a bit challenging at times. The most challenging level so far — and the most frustrating — is near the beginning of the Empire Strikes Back portion of the story during the Hoth battle. We got in the habit of completing one level every night, but this one stumped us for a few days. It drove us nuts. We were ready to give up on the game altogether. Then we found a video on YouTube that shows how to complete the hardest part of the level. And we realized we are lame gamers — true gamers probably would have found the solution in no time. So for all the non-gamers out there who are about to give up on the game because of the damn Hoth level, watch this video and then kick yourselves. It’s still not the easiest level to complete, but it’s doable.

Phillip, you forgot to close the tag.

Anyhow, Lego Star Wars is cool! I have both 1 and 2 for the PS2 and I bought the Complete Saga for the DS. Addictive game! And it takes a while to complete, and then you want to go back and get all the crap in free play.

Jody, you might want to check the coding of this post. I’m not sure what tag was left open. The new blog design seems to add a boat load of code when I embed a YouTube video.

I hear that. We’re playing one level at a time every night. Any more than that and we could get addicted. So we’ll be at it for awhile. Then we’ll go back in free play mode. Right now we’re saving up to buy the Emperor for free play mode.

How the hell did all that extra html get in your post? What did you do? I’m cleaning it up now.

I’m using the visual editor to write my posts now, but I switched to code mode to embed the YouTube video. It could be the visual editor.

UPDATE: I did a test. It’s the visual editor. Won’t be using that anymore, at least for embedding video.

It’s too easy to overlook the solutions to some levels. A good example is Part 2 of the Dagobah level. Around the 3:05 mark and beyond is what I missed.

Solutions for the whole game are listed here:

UPDATE: Oops. Wrong game. That’s the first Lego Star Wars game, not the original trilogy.
