Skinny Legs, a collector’s item
Wow. I got a request from a Whole Wheat Radio listener for my cover of Lyle Lovett’s song, “Skinny Legs.” The song used to be in WWR’s library but was recently removed — probably because it played so often that Jim said enough is enough. I don’t blame him.
At any rate, by request, I present you with “Skinny Legs.”
UPDATE: The old MP3 file has been replaced with a higher-quality MP3. By request, I’ll post the WAV file later in the comments if the file isn’t too big.

Nope - it was removed (along with a lot of other music) as myself and the EJs cleaned up the music library to represent folks we can actually help sell their CDs. As the site is being updated by listeners in preparation for bringing the artists back in full-force, I had to decide between supporting working musicians with a web presence and CDs and those who make wonderful music but we can’t “help”. Yeah, it hurt to remove a lot of that music.
It would have been removed eventually as a “cover” anyway though. That’s going to hurt even more as we get 100% of the library signed off for royalty-free airplay from the copyright holder.
Glad you made it available here!
I’m waiting for Lyle Lovett’s people to send me a letter asking for royalty payments next.
Skinny Legs,
the WAV file. 20mb. (Right-click and “Save as…”) It won’t be up for long.J-Walk posted Skinny Legs Ruined (MP3 link) — adding his unique banjo stylings to the recording. Nice. We’ll have to play “Skinny Legs” together if we ever meet. Then we can go on tour and end with a house concert at Whole Wheat Radio. Or not.
If anyone else feels inspired to add something to the recording and you don’t have fancy recording gear, just play back the original MP3 or WAV file through headphones, perhaps on a portable player, and record the new track through your PC. Then send it to me and I’ll sync it up and mix it.
Jody, maybe a little piano?
I love the sound of the banjo. I’ll be glad when I can practice my banjo more when I get a new house. Where I’m living now, it’s impossible to play it without disturbing the people who live upstairs. I’ve had my banjo for a year, and except for the first couple months, I’ve barely touched it. I’ll be so happy to get out of the craphole I’m living in. Anyway.
