55 Dollar Fruit

J-Walk posted an item about an 8 Dollar Fruit. It reminded me of the watermelon in Labrador with the $55 price tag. Apparently it was a pricing error.

The [store] manager said that despite the price tag, the melon’s actual price should have been $38.

Would you pay $38 for this watermelon?

Sure! When we were in labrador in the early nineties, a watermelon would have been “bloody luxury”. I think this watermelon was in Nain…so as North as you could go…in regards of permenant settlement….hey..you could almost always get cases of those little cans of schnieder cocktail wieners..mmmmm…

we used to get a susidy from a southern community group which we used to buy oranges, and apples when available and UV milk to feed to the kids at the school because fruit was pretty expensive…obviously it still is…

55 dollar fruit? That’s nothing. You can get all kinds of fruits, and even fruitcakes, on St. Catherine’s street in Montreal for that! (Not that I would ever buy one!)

Steve, how come you appear knowledgeable about the cost and location “fruit” in that particular venue?? Just a guess? Steve its okay we are family here at steel white table…you can tell us….
