Daniel Lanois Goldtop Edition of “Acadie”

Phillip posted this at 10:14 am under music & audio, phillip's room

Daniel Lanois is releasing a “Goldtop” edition of his 1989 album, Acadie. It has 6 bonus tracks. The first 500 copies sold through his web site, Red Floor Records, will be signed by the man himself. I ordered mine today. I guess I’ll find out when it arrives if I’m one of the first 500, not that it matters too much. I wonder if he hires someone to sign the CDs for him. How would I know what his real signature looks like?

I’m also seeing at a club in St. John’s on October 16th. Looking forward to it.

I saw him last night in St. John’s. He said his American band got stopped at the border (or maybe it was too expensive to bring them all to Newfoundland), so it was just him and his electric guitar on stage accompanied for a few songs by a local female singer.

He put on a good show, though show isn’t the word for it. He’s not showy. He really bangs away at his guitar at times, zoning out on some crazy digital delays, but it’s about getting in the moment.

It felt like he was sharing a bunch of personal songs with us. He introduced “Jolie Louise” by saying it’s a story about his parents breaking up when he was a kid. He seemed to almost cry while he was singing it. There was nothing false about his performance.

He played for under 2 hours. It went by fast. He may have played longer if he had his band behind him. It was a good show. Later I bought his “Rockets” CD for $10.
