Country Music

I glanced this on CNN’s front page:

Dierks Bentley, Martina McBride, Julianne Hough, John Rich and Gretchen Wilson and more! Country’s biggest and hottest stars get personal with Larry King!

I haven’t heard of any of them except Larry King.

What happened to Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Charlie Pride, etc. They all dead?

Holy crap – I just looked at Willie’s website: he’s 76. Christ.

Country Music or Christian Rock? I can’t tell. They both sound like shit.

A few months ago I was flipping through the radio stations (all 3 of them) and a heavy rock song was playing – great energy and catching – I liked it. After I bit I could make out some of the lyrics: “…Jesus saves my soul…” I laughed, but didn’t turn it off – still a good song. I was surprised though.

If it ain’t country, it ain’t music.

  5. rekounas says:

Oh, Phillip. I thought you were smarter then that. That is a sad, sad comment.

  6. Jody says:

If it ain’t christian country, it ain’t worth listening to. Period!

  7. rekounas says:

Christian Country? Is there any other kind?

Oh, Phillip. I thought you were smarter then that. That is a sad, sad comment.

It’s always fun to throw out these kind of comments to see who takes them seriously. (You are taking it seriously, right?)

I can’t stand what’s called contemporary country, though I do lean more towards acoustic music than plugged-in.

Musically, most people don’t move beyond whatever they listened to in high school. Nobody likes to admit it, but most of what we listened to in high school is juvenile and silly, and we keep listening to it mainly because of the memories associated with the music.

High school music I don’t listen to anymore, or very rarely: Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Marillion, The Doors, The Beatles… and so on. Gotta say, though, the Doors’ “Road House Blues” still kicks some serious ass.

So… what exactly is “good” music? Don’t give me band names or genres or whatever… describe it.

  10. rekounas says:

It’s not country music except Johnny Cash that’s for sure. Country music for the most part is rubbish. I agree with Phillip about the High School Music to a degree. Most of the CDs that I bought were from the age of 15 to about 22. Then I started downloading MP3s and not listening to entire albums except (Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, and Tool) because lets face it, there hasn’t been anything good put out outside of those 3 bands since the 90s :)

  11. Phillip says:

True. If it ain’t Tool, it ain’t music. Some would argue if it ain’t Garbage, it ain’t music. Now there’s a debate.
