That’s my question. And what do you think of it? Up in The Air stars George Clooney, directed by Jason Reitman who also directed Juno, and it’s nominated for an Academy Award.

We saw and I liked it a lot more than I had expected to. The ending was a little “sweet”, but overall a good flick.
I agree, it’s not a bad flick. I’m not sure why it’s getting so much critical praise, though. George Clooney plays George Clooney again, and he’s good at it, but I don’t see what’s so special about it that he gets nominated for an Academy Award. The same for the movie itself. It’s a well-made movie, but is it memorable? I felt the same way about Jason Reitman’s “Juno” and it’s lead performance. Nothing to complain about, but I don’t see what makes them so special. (I don’t mind being enlightened though.)
Now Christoph Waltz in “Inglourious Basterds,” that performances stays with you. I thought he had a lead role in the movie, but I guess he didn’t. Of the 6 nominated movies I managed to see, “The Hurt Locker” shook me the most. It gets my vote for best picture, directing and editing. I’d like to see “Avatar” win for special FX and nothing else. It looks great, but it’s so dumb, that lack of respect for a good story shouldn’t be rewarded.
The truly best movie of the year, of course, is “Star Trek.” “I am and always shall be your friend.” Oh god, talk about pathos.
