Something Else

Phillip posted this at 2:51 pm under music & audio, phillip's room

Something Else is an improv recorded in my kitchen a few days ago while I was waiting for some beef stew to heat up on the stove. The lyrics are nonsense, and the melody, although very basic, is kinda catchy. Listen to this one a couple times and you’ll be humming it all day.

UPDATE: Sorry, this recording has been removed.

“Something Else” needs to be capitalized, and perhaps you could add a music symbol next to it to indicate that this is music? (I gotta start designing these entries myself!)

Why does the box after “Email” asy URI? What’s a URI?

    Capitalized? Fer jezuz sake.

Put your mouse over the URI label and a small label will spell it out. It’s for a web site address.

Downloaded and am airing it now - fun! But hey, really, it helps immensely if you tag the MP3s with at least title and artist. Or, maybe you don’t want people to know who it is? Anyway, without tags in the MP3, when this hits big on P2P or wherever it ends up, no one will know who it is. :-)

Shit! I missed it! Thanks for the suggestion, Jim, and the air-play.

Do you know how to put those tags on, Jody? I’ve never had the need to do it before, so I never bothered to learn. –But I will if I have to.

It’s got a funky beat that I can bug out to.

That’s me, man. I like to funk it up!

Philip … if you have Winamp (Windows world) the load the song into Winamp, highlight it and press ALT-3 (that’s the # key unshifted). It should pop up two boxes you can fill in. But I wouldn’t trust me. Listen to Jody. He knows how to explain it better than I do.

Gym: his name has two “L”s: Phillip.

Phillip: Do you use Winamp? If not, whatever program you use to create the MP3s (or even play them) should support the editing of the tags Jim is refering to. Email me what you use.

    A couple things:

ONE: Jody, in these comments, and on the main page, the author is in that tiny, tiny annoying font, the fine print. Can you make it bigger or bolder?

Also, it reads betters when the AUTHOR comes first. For example:

    “Jody Cairns, Saturday, April 3, 2004, 8:12 am A.T.”

–you don’t even need the word “Posted” cuz that’s obvious.

These are little details that make sites like this more friendly and easier to read. The less you can make it look like it was made a PC techie, the better.

TWO: Can I have the FTP info I’ll need to post the MP3 entries? I’ll do up the MP3s tags done up properly, I’ll provide links to the original artists when necessary, and I’ll make sure to fully capitalized each word in a the song titles.

THREE: I have WinAmp. Shouldn’t be difficult to figure out this MP3 tag situation. Thanks.

Got it Joddy. Phillip with two L’s.

Jim: The Alt-3 trick worked. I’ve added the appropriate tags to all the MP3s that might eventually get posted to the site (about 50mins worth, not including the online extras like “Something Else”). Properly tagged version of the MP3s currently available will be FTP to Jody ASAP.

“Else” in “Something else” hasn’t been capitized yet. Hello? I think I hear civilization coming to an end. Anarchy is coming.

“Something ELSE.” Now that’s more like it.
