Country Song
“Country Song” was recorded in St. John’s, Newfoundland, at a time when I did not want to be in St. John’s, Newfoundland and was looking for a reason not to go live in a long cabin in the woods. Like most of these songs, this one was written and recorded simultaneously. My guitar happened to be in tune, there was a pleasant acoustic in the room, whatever; I hit the RECORD button and this is what came out. It’s short, honest and to the point, and I like it.
Upate: The “Country Song” recording is no longer available. (So it’s a collector’s item!)

HELLO?> Anybody out there? This is the closest thing to a real song that’s been posted so far! What’s up? Nobody taking notice? What about my fans, goddammit! Jody, maybe you need to post another song of me humming for five minutes to get their attention. “Country Song.” More like a masterpiece! Talking about my old dog, and the apple tree in the backyard. Fucken A, man! That’s Johnny Cash material! (Though I still think “Ring of Fire” is about a guy who pinched a loaf that was a real burner: “And it burns, burns, burns, burning right of fire!”) Heathens.
Damn typos.
Send an email to Jim about it, giving him the link just in case he overlooked it. You gotta send him a CD.
Pretty good. Not Johnny Cash, but pretty good.
I listened to it last night and had it stuck in my head for 5 minutes until I poured water in my ear. It was ok, which is saying a lot coming from a guy who hates everything.
I wasn’t being serious. Maybe the next one should be Jody and I playing “When You Dig Life,” recorded in 1986. Jody playing lead guitar, solos and everything.
Well, as they say at 3M, Post It!
JODY: This bit is redundant and be be deleted: “that’s where I was coming from.” Might want to replace with it “(No offence to Jim.)”
