A Slowly Dipping Halo

Phillip posted this at 5:50 pm under music & audio, phillip's room

Watch Her Disappear was written by Tom Waits.

The air is wet with sound / The far away yelping of a wounded dog / And the ground is drinking a slow faucet leak / Your house is so soft and fading as it soaks the black summer heat…

I made this recording, along with 9th and Hennepin, in 2003 during a month in which I was extremely sick and miserable with a killer flu. It would have been a shame to let my sore throat go to waste. I recorded this on a noisey hand-held tape recorder with an even noisier piano playing the background.

P.S., I may post one or two more recordings after this, most likely some cover tunes of something, and then I’ll probably close the door to Phillip’s Room for awhile. I have no delusions of musical greatness to reinforce here, and the novelty of blogging has gotten old. (Come winter, though, I’ll probably change my mind.)

I like this a lot. The piano recorded in stereo is a nice effect. The noise on the vocal track fits well with the voice itself. Almost as good as Tom Waits.
