How Not to Make Fish Cakes

Phillip posted this at 8:49 pm under food & drink, movies, tv & video, phillip's room

sunday scoffIn this, the second episode of Sunday Morning Scoff (2.5mb, 3.5mins), we take our hand at making another popular Newfoundland breakfast item: fish cakes. Unlike the first episode where all we did was cook some toutons (then eat them), in this episode we actually make the fish cakes. Unfortunately, they don’t turn out too good because we use fresh cod instead of salt cod, and the proportion of potatoes-to-cod is all wrong. The result is a mushy, rather tasteless fish cake; hmm, mushy fishcakes (though Mike seems to like them). Maybe next week we’ll prepare some figgy duff, which neither of us has a clue how to make.

lol.. you are not the only ones.. I made fishcakes this eve and unfortunately didnt put enough flour around them and so.. when i placed them in the frying pan they fell apart!! ha ha.. i have just noticed a recipe though which suggests adding a little beaten egg to the potato fish mix.. to help it bind!! will try this next time!
