Steel White Table’s New Design

Jody posted this at 4:03 pm under steel white table

Yeah, it’s finally up. I have a LOT of tweaking to do, but I wanted to get the guts of it up and running, more as a motivation for me to fix the small stuff that’s broke with the new design.

What’s new:

  • Wordpress now runs the whole site, whereas before it only ran everything under /blog. This will allow for a consistent look across all pages and easier maintenance.
  • The vertical sidebar can be moved to the left or right of your screen via the black buttons on the upper-right of the screen.
  • Width is now fixed instead of fluid (i.e. stretching across your browser’s screen).
  • The website’s favicon has been updated: Steel White Table's favicon

Changes that I’ll be working on the next couple of months:

  • Consolidate the mess of categories.
  • Improve site’s speed.
  • Add more personal project pages and interests.
  • Fix anything that’s broke.

Shit, the list (UL, LI, etc) HTML tag isn’t working. That’s first on my list to fix.

The font size can be increased or decreased in FireFox the usual way. What’s nice is that the width of the page increases to accommodate the new font size instead of getting cramped into a limited space. Quite handy with the NoSquint add-on which I use all the time.

The italics and bold tags ain’t working either.

I increased the font size through FireFox. A slightly larger font looks much better to me.

I’m using Firefox and it looks great to me.

Perhaps a button to make the sidebar totally disappear and then have the text to spread out across the remaining space. OH Heck! It’s good just the way it is. Pay no attention to me.

Somethings don’t display correctly in IE, plus there are other minor CSS issues. I have lots of other updates to do, too.

The site’s feed has changed! I thought I fixed that. I’ll be working on that soon. No one knows about site updates! OH NO!

This reminds me of a WKRP episode, the one where the radio station goes off the air and the leading news story by Les Nessman is that they’re off the air.

Pretty! The feed is showing up in my Bloglines…

Ya, I did some Apache magic to fix it.

I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT

(Just felt good to say that to someone else for once instead of having it said to me — I don’t really hate it — I haven’t even looked at it! I’ll do that now - and thanks for taking the time to introduce us to something new!)

Cool favicon. I think that’s new?

Happy new year from Newfoundland where it just turned 2008 two minutes ago.

    I’m going to bed now.

I like it. It’s clean and simple. Should get a plug-in for the HTML buttons for commenting.

Yeah, that’s on my To Do list, in addition to an option to subscribe via email to a post’s comment thread. Thanks.

I like it, this is the first time I’ve been on the site since the redo since you’re on a .org domain and my work filters that, for some idiot reason.
