A gunshot woke me up this morning at 5:30am. At least, it sounded like a gunshot. My bedroom wall faces my neighbor’s driveway, with about 20-25 feet separating our houses.
I got up and had a shower, thinking what I should do:
Check the basement under our bedroom: maybe the cat knocked something over.
Walk outside [...]

My son just climbed out of his car seat and was playing outside. I was picking up old french fries or something from the car floor around his seat. I straighted up and started to close the car door when I felt a slight resistant; that’s when he yelled: my son’s fingers were [...]

I bought two pants today (I felt compelled to write “two PAIRS of pants”. Why?) at Moores. I hate buying cloths, but my co-workers went there to buy a coat so I decided to wander around the place; and I am in need of new pants.
I wear 32″ waist, 30″ leg; however, the [...]

I’m headed to St. John’s, Newfoundland today for a business trip. My employer is a system integrator of an RFID proposal and I’m the Technical Architect; there’s a company in Newfoundland who specializes in RFID solutions, whom we may partner with.
Phillip’s picking me up at the airport. His big plans for me:
Go to [...]

I bought a bottle of pop today, which I haven’t done in 20 or more years. I’ll drink a little pop if I’m eating pizza or similar fast food and it’s provided for me, but I never buy it - we never have it in the house; but today, while buying a bag of [...]

I’m taking our 14 year old cat (the black and white one) to the veterinarian in about an hour to be euthanized. She never was a friendly cat, but she’s become worse the past year: swiping at our other cat and anyone who gets to close to her; not using the litter box regularly; isolating [...]

The phone rang around 7am. I was just waking up. It’s one of my wife’s friends: her basement is flooding from a water leak near her clothes washer and she doesn’t know what to do.
“There should be two pipes leading to the washer,” I say. “One for hot water, one for cold. [...]

I’m thinking about getting a hair cut. Might even shave, too.

I normally don’t give a fuck about my birthday; I’m not one to care about celebrating it or receiving gifts; however, this year’s birthday is beginning to turn into an event: emails from relatives I normally never hear from, a party with balloons and streamers (for the kids more than anyone), lots of gifts…
Turning 40 [...]

I opened a dusty bottle of Ardbeg today. It’s been sitting on my shelf for a few years.
The aroma was divine. Swirling it around in the small glass brought forth fragrances of peat, iodine, and citrus; and then a splash of water…
Moments like that I’d prefer to share with a fellow scotch lover.

The kids and I had fried baloney (dipped in ketchup), baked beans, and eggs for breakfast.
What did you have?

Sliced apple sprinkled with salt and shredded lettuce. That’s what my 7 year old asked for breakfast today.

After making my coffee this morning, I put the cream in the cupboard and sugar in the fridge.
Have you done anything silly in the morning, before you’re fully awake?

I went to bed around 11pm last night, thinking how I used to stay up and party for this annual event, but I’m too old and lazy now to care about it. So while trying to go to sleep I thought about what I’ll be doing this new year:
Drink two cups of coffee every [...]
