Book Furniture

A book shelf made of booksSecond EditionsExtending the shelf life of books in an innovative way:

This Into That offers functional art furniture, primarily book shelves on any theme. Each is made by Jim Rosenau at his studio in Berkeley, California. No books that could change the course of world events are harmed in the production.

The artist makes shelves and furniture out of discarded books:

The books come mostly from donations, recycling centers and library discards. I research all apparently valuable books and try to place them with dealers but rarely succeed.
I am interested in older hardback books that look better than they read. I prefer books with strong type on the cover and spine. Older encyclopedias with gilt type on the spines and embossed covers are always great.

I wish I could afford those wonderful shelves. They would look nice in the house made of books.

Grow A Couch

Lawn couchLawn Furniture for Literalists:

How much oxygen did your furniture produce today? […] sculpt lawn furniture from the lawn itself. Unlike your standard-issue sofa, this lush greenery is totally organic, requires no synthetic finishes, and can be brought to life, Golem-style, from salvaged dirt. […] Note: Couch may require mowing.
