Singing A Song

Sold On Song is a great BBC Radio site offering information about songwriting, song history, song genres… anything song related. They have an interesting collection of essays about classic songs, including Jimi Hendrix’s version of All Along The Watchtower:

There are few cover versions that truly replace the original in most people’s minds. But Jimi Hendrix’s version of Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” is so good that even Dylan prefers it.

When I listen to online radio it’s either the BBC, WWR, or CBC.

  1. i’m also very fond of the dave matthews version of that song, but only because that’s the first version i heard of it.

    cool site.

  2. I’ve cut way back on my internet radio listening, on reading blogs, everything. Although I still like most of what I hear at WWR and other places, most of the stuff I do online is a big waste of my time. I might initially sit in front of the computer to listen to the BBC or read the latest posts to someone’s blog, but then I get sucked into sitting in front of the computer for hours on end. It’s like some big box store having a sale on something you really need. You go in to buy that item, but once you’re in there, you end up staying a long time and buying a bunch of other junk you don’t need. Damn internet!
