Nathan Hale High Students Like Their Pot

Nathan Hale High—get it, High?—cheerleaders smoking dopeNathan Hale High School is in Seattle, Washington. It’s apparently a great place to go to school:

…has a building culture of shared leadership among all staff, decision making by the people closest to implementing decisions, high levels of professional freedom, and a widely held commitment to promoting a climate of respect, decency, and trust throughout the school community.

Sedition.com recently posted a photo of students from Nathan Hale smoking dope (initially without the faces and license plate blocked out):

Besides being stupid enough to do it in view of three businesses and more residences, like clockwork during the lunch hour, they’re on private property down there. They pushed it over the edge today throwing trash right in front of me and showing up too drunk to stand at the playground by their school which was full of little kids.

Sedition.com didn’t post it without a lot of thought, but some of the students seem to have little respect for their neighborhood:

I have caught Nathan Hale kids pissing on the little kids’ playground gym equipment. I have picked up more than one used condom from where 2 year-olds climb on slides. I’ve picked up bags worth of of trash. I watched two “friends” carry their buddy too drunk to stand off that same playground the day I posted this.

I don’t know if I would’ve posted a photo of the incident. I think I would’ve talked to the school and city authorities first. Maybe. If I saw no results from that, then I’d post about it with a photo.

Some students found Sedition’s post, prompting Sedition to edit the photo. Their comments are, as expected, abusive.

  1. Yeah. It’s very difficult. I am not sure I did the right thing (I really don’t care about the pot, they shouldn’t until they’re older but at least it’s safer for them than drinking). There was not much left to do. I have called the school, twice. Talked with kids on… more than 5, less than 10 occasions. Called the litter hotline (they send a letter to the owner of the vehicle) several times; even called the cops for a couple incidents in the park. But the graffiti and trash keep increasing every year.

As you say, though, a couple of polite, contrite comments would have gone miles to making them look better.

  2. Apparently I’m one of the steel white table crew, derailing the REAL issues on this! Here I thought I had sedition on my own bloglines subscription.

I laughed at steve’s rebuttle to my comment on there about how they should get in trouble, instead focusing on the simple joke I made that he didn’t understand.

I’m glad sedition’s commenting is closed on that post now. It was aggravating. He puts up with shit for years then finally does something about it, then oops, HE’S the bad guy! It’s publicly and socially acceptable to break the law and any law abiders are evil christians.

  3. I don’t see anything wrong with what Ashley did. I probably would have taken the photos and yelled out, “This is going to look great on my blog!”

  4. ohh i feel shame…i have failed…i promise in the future to not make any comments “worth making”….and to never stray from here…swt…

i just want to be one of the swt crew…can i have the pirate hat and the parrot….but more importantly … want to be like pender when i grow up….no not like pender…i want to be pender….
