I Like Them Lyrics

Molly be damned smote Jimmy the Harp
With a horrid little pistol and a lariat
she’s goin’ to the bottom
and she’s goin’ down the drain
Said she wasn’t big enough to carry it

Who wrote those lyrics? (Without looking it up.)

    • Yup. “Get Behind the Mule” from his 1999 album, Mule Variations. I encoded the CD as a single MP3 this morning. When I played it back to test it, I couldn’t stop listening. And I realized I never gave the album a good listen all the way through before. It’s astounding. After listening to mostly his live recordings for the past couple years (many of them unofficial releases) and impressed by how the songs are transformed into different creatures on stage, I’m going back to reacquaint myself with the original studio versions. It’s like digging up buried treasure. I appreciate the music more than I did the first time around.
