Searching From Firefox’s Address Bar

Firefox keywordsThe Firefox browser has a useful feature called Keywords used to create shortcuts for internet addresses and searches. Keymarks explained is an excellent explanation on how to use this simple, but useful feature:

A keymark is a special kind of bookmark that replaces the %s in the bookmark location field with the text entered after the associated trigger (keyword) in the address bar. This article shows step by step how to create your own keymarks. It also explains how you can import several useful keymarks from a file given.

So, instead of going to and typing into their search field and pressing Go, in my Firefox address bar I simply type:

wiki whole wheat radio

  1. It works. I just typed in the following exactly as shown here, and it brought me right to the sites:

    steel white table
    whole wheat radio
    j-walk blog
    mud radio
